Press release
Hi Blog readers,
I am just getting started with my blogging and I thought it would be appropriate to share this press release with you all as my first blog!!!
The North Carolina rock group SwampDaWamp (SDW) has officially changed its name to Sunstone. The eight-member band will soon head into the studio to lay down the tracks for their upcoming album and will work closely with soon to be announced world-class producers and sound engineers.
SDW’s wicked twin guitar interactions, energetic live shows, and unusual name had made them a favorite of untold rock fans since the band’s inception in 2005.
In early 2011 there was a change in the band’s lineup with the addition of some extraordinarily talented musicians. Lead singer/songwriter Gig Michaels remarked that, “Now in 2013 we really mesh as a band and we’re better than ever.” One change often begets others, and the group began to question their now former name. SDW didn’t reflect who they were as a band or the evolving sound, and together they concluded that they wanted a name that did both. They involved their fans, friends, and the entire band in the search via a Facebook and Twitter campaign. They selected two fan submissions, took the band’s pick (Sunstone), and put all three to a vote. Sunstone was chosen by a wide margin. Just about everyone is embracing the new name and really likes the story behind the choice of Sunstone and how it relates to the band. For Michaels, “We hope people will now focus on our music, not our name.”
According to Michaels, “Sunstones were prized by the Native Americans for their healing properties and that’s what Sunstone as a band wants our music to do – heal people. Our sound may be pure rock n’ roll but the lyrics are true and straight from the heart. Sunstone’s songs focus on real issues that many of us struggle with on a daily basis, including bullying, addictions, the daily grind, etc... Some fans draw strength and courage from our anti-bullying anthem ‘Fat Boy Can Jam,’ others find comfort in ‘The River,’ or hope in the song ‘Six Tons.’ It is the healing power of music that makes this possible.”
Under their former name SDW had a successful regional following. They’ve shared billing with artists such as ZZ Top, Paul Rodgers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foreigner, and The Marshall Tucker Band, among many others. The band has created a unique sound – part modern rock, part classic rock, part Southern rock, part country, and part blues – but all rock n’ roll.
Sunstone’s debut album will feature the tough as nails sound of “Devil” (in My Whiskey), the dirty blues of “That Easy,” the raw energy of “I Am,” the mainstream rock of “Double or Nothin’,” and the infectious beat of “Fat Boy Can Jam.” Sunstone is planning a nationwide tour.
